How to create colour blindness accessible art with AI

The following is a specialized Leonardo.Ai workflow aimed at creating art that caters to diverse color perceptions. Approximately 3 to 8% of the global population experiences some form of color blindness, ranging from difficulty distinguishing certain tones to complete black-and-white vision.

Our approach includes two techniques designed to bridge this perceptual gap and ensure art can be equally appreciated by individuals with varying color perceptions.

It’s essential to understand the spectrum of color blindness, which manifests in differing levels of difficulty with red, green, or blue hues.

To effectively share artwork, consider the following breakdown:

Examples of colour blindness

To facilitate this inclusivity, we will demonstrate how to leverage Leonardo.Ai’s image generation capabilities to craft captivating art accessible to all.

First Method:

This method is all about identifying the color to be excluded and adding it as a negative prompt.

Identify the type of color blindness to accommodate.

Keep in mind that a color-blind person may have difficulty distinguishing colors along the red-green, blue-yellow axis, or both.

Step #2: Create your prompt as usual. You don’t need to include anything special.

Step #3: Enable the negative prompt directly below and include the problematic color.

Adding a negative prompt

Let’s assume it will be “red”:

Step #4: Click “Generate” to produce results primarily excluding the specified color.

Second method

Building upon the negative prompt method and utilizing additional tools, we’ll construct a color palette to guide our creations.

Step #1: Just like in the last step, specify the problematic color to address, activate the negative prompt, and input the color to avoid.

Step #2: Craft your prompt, beginning with descriptors like “blurry, color gradient, mixed colors…”

You can define the prompt with texture or preferred palette characteristics; for landscapes, “earthy” tones work well.

Step #3: Select a palette from the generated results. We will be focusing on the one with a dark upper portion.

Step #4: Utilize the “Image Guidance” feature by clicking the arrows button to send the chosen palette as a reference image.

Step #5: In Image Guidance, opt for “Style Reference” from the drop-down menu.

Step #6: Write your prompt and click “Generate” to produce an image aligned with the chosen colors and style.

By embracing these methods, artists can create visually appealing and inclusive artwork that transcends color barriers, ensuring enjoyment for all observers.
