Formatting a basic prompt with Leonardo.Ai

This guide will help you create a simple working prompt right away! You’re encouraged to play with the concept and further experiment to develop your own style and make interesting discoveries.

For more precise results, keep the prompt as a list of subjects and details you wish to apply to the generation, separated by commas.

The terms provided here are just a tiny sample of what’s possible, meant to inspire you. Again, feel free to later use other styles and characters you have in mind.

Step #1: Describe the style
(e.g., Cinematic, Anime, 3D render, Selfie, etc.)

Describing the style for different image output

Step #2: Describe the main focus of the image, it’s appearance, and action
(e.g., “Lady, hoodie, backpack,” “Superhero, costume, cape,” “running,” etc.)

The main focus can drastically change an image

Step #3: Describe the scene and background
(e.g., Futuristic city at night, mystical forest, ancient Greek temple, etc.)

Scene and background example

Step #4: Add more details to set the composition, the lighting, the framing, etc…
(e.g., Rule of thirds, sunset, pixelated, aerial view, close-up, etc.)

Composition, lighting, and framing examples

Step #5: When you’re ready, hit the “Generate” button to receive your images.

Generate button

In this example, we used our sample prompt: Cinematic, Lady, hoodie, backpack, sitting, Futuristic city at night, neon lights.

Now, you can mix and match terms and eventually come up with your own depending on your needs. For more information, check out the article titled “Prompting Tips and Tricks” by David Gregory.
